Valentines Heart Mobile

I love mobiles.  There’s just someting whimsical about objects floating in the air.  I picked up these adorable little hearts from the Crocheted Flower Patch and thought they would be perfect for a mobile.  I got a piece of round cardboard (ended up being the cardboard from a Delissio Pizza bottom) and glued red paper to both sides.  I then put a couple of holes in the middle to thread my ribbon through.  I punched 12 holes around the outside of the cardboard piece and then tied with hearts on with fishing line.  Super easy!

Heart Crayons for Valentines Day

A very long time ago (before I was married with kids), I was into crayon melting.  What a great way to use old and broken crayons and make them like new again.  I used to use candy molds and make all kinds of fun shapes.

This morning my kids and I melted crayons into heart shapes as little gifts to go along with their Valentine cards.  My daughter loved taking the wrappers off the crayons and my little guy enjoyed breaking the crayons (I cut what was left).  I picked up the crayons for $1.50 for the bag from a thrift store (no need to go new).  The silicone heart mold was $3.50 from Walmart.  Ideally, I would have got something a little smaller but this was all I could find at Walmart and I didn’t want to look in a lot of different stores.  Michaels would probably be a good bet though.  Just fill the molds about 3/4 full with broken crayons and put in a 250 degree oven for about 15 minutes.  Take the crayon meltings out as soon as they are melted.  Let the “new” crayons sit until hardened and then simply pop them out of the mold.  Easy and fun!  We made 12 fairly large heart crayons.

FREE Printable LOVE Banner

I love how this banner turned out!  Perfect for Valentines day. Simply print off each of the following PDF files on your home printer.  I then cut out each image leaving aprox 1.5cm of white space on the edges.  You will then need to get some light-med weight cardboard, a couple of cereal boxes would work great.  Cut the cardboard into four 19cm x 19cm squares (one for each letter).  Turn each letter over and tape the edges to the back of the cardboard. Fold in the corners as if you were wrapping a present.  The cardboard backs will give each letter more weight and nice finished edges.

Once each letter is done, punch two holes in each letter and string a piece of ribbon through.  Hang on a mantle of any place that a banner would catch some attention.  That’s it; enjoy!

Moustache/ Lips Photo Props

I am always on the look out for ways to make photos fun and interesting.  Therefore it’s probably no surprise that I was thrilled when I came across Whisker Works.  You may have noticed that moustaches and lips on a stick have become pretty popular at wedding photo booths, etc.  However, there is no need for these items to only make an appearance at wedding photo booths.  What about family photos, children’s photography and even a Valentines photo booth!?!

Whisker Works offers high-quality, durable, long-lasting and sanitary PLASTIC props that are sure to add a hilarious twist to any celebration!  They are currently having their 2 year celebration (ends January 31st)  and therefore all moustaches and lips are just $5.  “LIKE” their facebook page and go to the thank you tab to get your 10% off coupon as well.

I just ordered a set for my family to use for our Valentine photo cards.  Fun…you bet!! They even offer Minature Moustaches and Lips for the kids, I know ours are going to love them!  If you’re a photographer, consider ordering a set to have on hand.  I know they would really come in handy for those not so cooperative children and adults that aren’t interested in having their photo taken.  Check out a few photo ideas below as well as my suggestions for setting up a photo booth.

Just for Fun:  Consider setting up your own little photo booth at home.  I’ll post more about how to do this in a couple of weeks.  Thinking of Valentines day?  Grab some red and white striped fabric or a neutral background and hang or set up on a wall where you get good natural light.  Have a fun little photo shoot at home with the kiddies.  You may even get dad to get in on the action!

Having a Valentines Party?  Set up the photo booth and take photos of your guests with their moustaches and lips. Sure to be a lot of fun for everyone!  Send out the photos as keepsakes to your guests after the party.  Your guests will also love looking at an online facebook gallery of moustache pics!

Are you a Photographer: A moustache/ lip set is the perfect addition in your bag of tricks!  Consider planning Valentines day mini sessions.  Set up a little photo booth and let your clients just have fun!  I would suggest contacting a local school and setting up a couple of photo booth days about a week before Valentines day.  In the quiet photography months, this could be great advertising/ networking idea for you.  Offer the mini sessions at a great rate and consider giving a part of your profits to the school (great fundrasier as well).  Make sure you have up to date promotional material to hand out to prospective clients. Some of the best advertising is about creating meaningful connections with people (a little fun doesn’t hurt either).

Getting Married?  How about a photo booth?

**Get creative!  Add some fun hats, glasses, etc to your prop basket.

Thinking of ordering some moustaches and/ or lips on a stick?  Be sure to do so asap in order to receive them in time for Valentines Day!

A big thank you to Whisker Works for creating such fun products and sending over these great photos.  I’m looking forward to posting our own moustache/ lip Valentine photos!  Dolcetto Designs was in no way encouraged or paid for this post.  Whisker Works is just a great product that I wanted to share with others.  Thinking of purchasing after reading this post?  Be sure to let them know that you heard of them through Dolcetto Designs.
